Sydney is changing fast. Major planning reforms are reshaping our suburbs, increasing density and allowing much larger developments — often without the infrastructure, affordable housing or meaningful community consultation that good planning requires.
On Saturday 17 October, communities from across Sydney are coming together at Goddard Park, Concord to say: we support more housing, but we need a fair plan.

Nicolette Boele Independent MP for Bradfield launched Australia's first Bill for a consistent national definition of affordable housing alongside Allegra Spender Independent MP for Wentworth, the Planning Institute of Australia, the Property Council and Australian Community Housing.
From there, it was a whirlwind of interviews with Radio National, News24 and The Daily Aus. It was also covered by SBS, the Sydney Morning Herald, the AFR, and The Canberra Times.
But here's the part that didn't make the papers.
On ABC's Afternoon Briefing, Patricia Karvelas put our Bill directly to the Housing Minister and the Shadow Housing Minister.
Australia's Housing Minister, Clare O'Neil, said:
"We're certainly open to a better definition nationally... every state's got a different definition and we need to bring that together. So I've asked Treasury to do some work on this at the moment.
I'm really committed to getting this cleaned up because I want to see the stock of affordable housing grow around our country."
Then Shadow Minister Andrew Bragg asked what a definition would actually achieve. Patricia answered on our behalf: consistency, and more investment in affordable housing.

Scalabrini Community Drop In
The Scalabrini Community Drop-In Session will take place on Saturday, 12 September 2026, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. [1]
This drop-in session is part of the Scalabrini Harbourside redevelopment project planning. It is designed as an open window for community members, neighbors, and interested parties to meet the project team and technical experts, ask questions, and provide feedback on the proposed seniors housing reconfiguration.
