Chris, what happened? You said this in 2019 - yet now you’re driving the same over-development you once condemned. What happened to make you backflip so dramatically?

…“We can’t have spot rezonings where developers really call the shots and I’m one of these people that remembered that when the government was elected in 2011 Barry O’Farrell specifically stood up and said that he would return planning powers back to the local communities. Well the exact opposite has happened. People that do not live or reside in the St George Region make the vast bulk of the decisions in relation to major new developments and urban developments throughout the Kogarah Electorate, throughout St George, and really the people that do live here have to deal with the implications of it. So we don’t need to tinker around the edges. We don’t need incremental reform when it come to planning powers in NSW we need a fundamental revolution because its not working for the people that live here.”

We keep talking about “affordable housing” — but Australia still doesn’t have a consistent national definition of what “affordable” means. If we can’t define affordable housing, how can we deliver enough of it? Sign the petition to set a national definition, so when we say “affordable housing”, it means homes families can actually afford.
